WHAT CXOs READ

Rohan Verma, MapmyIndia

Rohan Verma, Director , MapmyIndiaWhat are you reading at the moment? What did you recently finish reading? What have you learnt from it?
I recently finished reading It Happened In India by Kishore Biyani. It is a brilliant book which explains how Future Group came into existence and how they have gone about their business. The book provides an insight into the mind of a famous/infamous, respected and maverick entrepreneur. One thing I learnt from it was that India can’t be looked at as 'one' market – there are many Indias, and one has to cater to all of them.

The one book all leaders must read...
Lance Armstrong’s It’s Not About the Bike.

One book everyone in your sector should pick up...
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. It provides a foundation for appreciating the value of innovation, creation and entrepreneurship.

What kind of books would you normally buy while travelling?
Novels, autobiographies of sports persons or businessmen,  epic mythology books (The Aeneid), light reads and books by Indian authors such as Vikram Seth and Jhumpa Lahiri

Have you written any books? If not, do you plan to write in future
No, I have not written a book yet.

The books you grew up with? What did you like most about it?
Enid Blyton, Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Agatha Christie, Archies, Amar Chitra Katha, John Grisham, Robin Cook, Robert Ludlum, the Disney Book of Encyclopedias as well as novels by  Indian authors.

Atlas ShruggedYour book shelf consists of....
Autobiographies, epics and mythology, light reads and novels, narrative business books.

Where do you shop for books?
Airports, Crossword and Om Book Depot

Have your reading habits changed in the past four or five years? If so, how....
My reading habits change every few years. Till the end of school I was happy to read fiction and novels. In college, and now in business, I have gained an interest in reading autobiographies of famous sports persons and businessmen as well as epics and books on mythology. The love of autobiographies continues, mixed with light reads in the middle.

One book you cherish that you received as a gift... and who gave it to you.
There have always been many books lying around my house – thanks to my family. Be it Archies, or Atlas Shrugged, or Encyclopedias, or Enid Blyton. Atlas Shrugged is a book that influenced me a lot and it was just one of those old books that was lying around the house that I picked up and loved reading.
